Uttarakhand offers you 21 Bugyals, but Dyara Bugyal is exquisite and the least explored one. It makes for a perfect trek holiday for families and a group of friends. It's not biased towards beginners and is also considered The Gateway To World Of Trekking. Rightly so, this 22 km long trek, throws at you a gradual and moderate ascent to the beautiful and sumptuous meadows of Dayara Bugyal.
The trek is open to trekkers throughout the year as it is not difficult and provides unexcelled experiences of Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter, and even Monsoon. Monsoon for obvious reasons is the least preferred season to go on the Dayara Bugyal Trek, but rest assured, monsoon has an allure unique to itself. The trek to Dayara Bugyal starts at Raithal (7,171 ft) and takes you to Dayara Top (11,830 ft); a summit climb. The first-time trekkers get a sense of achievement and a field of vision that's filled with panoramic shots of the
The Garhwal Himalayan Ranges that are near-at-hand and prominently visible from the Dayara Top are Bandarpoonch, Black Peak, Gangotri 1,Indian Himalayan Ranges. 2 and 3, Jaonli and Draupadi Ka Danda 1 and 2. Paramounting the Dayara Top, trekkers can pretend to place the enormous stretch of Dayara’s alpine meadows into perspective. Wherever you turn, you have lush green meadows in the summer, this turns to golden brown when you're there in the autumn.
For some trekkers, the sight of the wildlife (the horses, the mules, the cows, the sheep) is arresting, almost hypnotic. For others, the pink, yellow, blue, and violet, wildflowers make a world of difference. Some wildflowers adorning the meadows that you'll get to see are primroses, daisies, and the Himalayan blue poppies. The oak, maple, and rhododendron forests are the icing on this cake that is Dayara Bugyal. They'll be with you, throughout your ascent and descent on the Dayara Bugyal Trek.
Raithal Altitude: 7,170 ft (2,185 m)
Altitude Gain: 5,070 ft (1,546 m)
Travel Distance: 185 km
Travel Hours: 9 hrs (approx.)
Today marks the beginning of your adventure on the Dayara Bugyal Trek. This starts at Dehradun, where you'll onboard vehicles and drive to Raithal. This 9 hours-long drive will take you through different towns, villages, viewpoints, etc. The route stretches 158 km, wherein after every hour, you'll be at someplace quaint and picturesque.
The destination for today (Raithal village), is desired, but the entire path to Raithal is sprawled with desirables with their unique beauty. Like each route that goes through the hills of Uttarakhand, this one has valleys and pine trees accompanying your journey too. Alongside these trees and valleys, you have to yourself, enthralling views of villages like Bolasi, Syalsi, Bikolgaon, Patara, Matli, Laksheshwar, Jamak, etc.
After your entry into the Uttarkashi district, you'll have River Bhagirathi accompany you. The flowing river water and its crinkling will be a soothing tone as you ascend towards Raithal, which is, from Uttarkashi, at a distance of 45 km. Raithal village is a story on its own and is a sustainable village of Uttarakhand. This village preserves the essence of its traditions very well, something you should explore if time permits.
You'll reach Raithal by evening and get mesmerizing views of the sunset. The Gangotri ranges, far off, will appear to dance in the colours of the sunset (pink, purple; vibrant, and uplifting). At this base village, you'll get time to rest and acclimatize yourself for the upcoming 22 km-long trek to Dayara Bugyal.
Gui Altitude: 9,700ft (2,956 m)
Altitude Gain: 2,530 ft (771 m)
Travel Distance: 4.5 km
Travel Hours: 5 hrs (approx.)
A new morning, with the promise of adventures and resplendent views, starts today. The trekkers, after their morning breakfast, will ascend the stony trail to Dayara Bugyal, passing the welcome gate in Raithal. The gate is a mirror to the locals you'll meet on your trek up to the Dayara Bugyal. It states, “पर्यटक क्षेत्र दयारा बुग्याल में आपका हार्दिक स्वागत है।” Which means, “You are wholeheartedly welcome to the tourist area that is Dayara Bugyal.”
The trail to Gui campsite takes you on a stony path, built to prevent trekkers from going ashtray. Ascending to your destination for today, you'll find yourself admiring the grandeur of oak and rhododendron trees that you'll walk past. Alongside this, you'll have the opportunity to experience the meadows and forests on the way to Gui. The trek is different in different seasons. In spring, you'll see rhododendrons loaded with flowers. The summer will bring you incredible green views of the small en-route meadows. The winter tells a different story altogether, with snow housing the tree branches that are more irradiant than ever.
You'll reach Gui campsite, 4.5 km from Raithal in around 5 hours, not before stopping at the Water Point; a prominent stop in the Dayara Bugyal Trek. The Gui campsite is a clearing that allows you to camp. You are amidst nature, surrounded by patches of green and brown oaks, maple, and rhododendron trees. This campsite also brings with it unclouded and proximate views of the Garhwal Himalayan Ranges. Some prominent ones are Shrikantha Peak and Gangotri Range.
Dayara Summit Altitude: 11,830 ft (3,605m)
Altitude Gain/Loss: 2,130 ft (650m)
Travel Distance: 6 km + 6 km (12 km approx.)
Travel Hours: 7 hrs (approx.)
It's “THE DAY,” as the trekkers will ascend from Gui through Chilapada and Dayara Bugyal Basecamp to Dayara Summit. As you ascend the trail from Gui, you'll pass through different streams (frozen in winter, crinkling in summer, spring, and autumn). Your trek up will be a birdwatcher’s haven as you'll hear and spot them singing sweet melodies of the mountains. The site of Himalayan Monal makes you skip a beat while trekking up to your destination.
Soon enough, passing through the stony trails, and oak, maple, and rhododendron forest patches, you'll meet a clearing. This is the beginning of the Dayara Bugyal; a pristine pasture land nestled by the mountains. The vastness of these green meadows see no bounds and no end is visible, see however far you may. All you'll see is the clear blue sky clouded and ethereal in the summers meeting with the green meadows blanketed by snow in the winters.
The Dayara Bugyal has 3 high-points: The Dayra Summit (Bakariya Top), The Bhakar Taj, and The Siari Top. We'll be ascending the summit climb from where you'll get rewarding and up-close views of different Himalayan Ranges. These are Bandarpoonch (20,722 ft), Black Peak (20, 955 ft), Gangotri 1 and 2 (21,900 ft), Jaonli 1 and 2 (21,758 ft), and Draupadi Ka Danda 1 and 2 (18, 753 ft). After having witnessed the bodacious views and packing the sunrise experience with you, you'll ascend down from the Dayara Top. The night camp will be at Gui (6 km from Dayara Top).
When looking at the Bugyal from the top, you'll see it is astounding with all its wildflowers, sheep, horses, cows, mules, and shepherd huts (chaniya). During winters, it turns into the perfect skiing spot, but a selective one, unlike Gulmarg.
Dehradun Altitude: 2,100 ft (640 mts)
Altitude Loss: 7,600 ft (2,316 m)
Travel Distance: 5 km + 185 km (190 km)
Travel Hours: 2.5 hrs + 9 hrs (11.5 hrs approx.)
You'll start your morning by watching the Gangotri range change colours as the sun rises conspiring a new dawn. The day will take you back to Dehradun, but before that, a trek down and a drive awaits. You'll start with descending to Raithal from Gui. On your way back, you'll bid farewell to the sky-scraping oak and rhododendron trees. Your descent will also mean the Himalayan Ranges getting farther from your view. But hey! You have your memories and experiences intact, also you can come back anytime you want.
For trekkers who like exploring different cultures and history, a few days more at Raithal will be a fun experience. They are sustaining their culture through their homestays and their festivals. One popular celebration you should catch here is the Butter Festival; a thank you to nature by the locals. To experience this, you'll have to be here in Monsoon (preferably mid-August). Apart from this, there's Panchpura (a 500-year-old house) which stays intact even after a destructive landslide that Raithal witnessed. Other destinations are Incomplete Sun Temple, Buddhist Relics, Someshwar Devta Temple, etc.
Even on your drive back to Dehradun, you'll have chances to witness the trekking bases to Rouni Dhaar, Gaumukh Tapovan Trek, and a village called Taknaur Renge, etc. For religious devotees, the drive gives access to temples like Aghornath Temple, Annapurna Devi Temple, Narsingh Devta Mandir, Tapkeshwar Mahadev Mandir, Bhairo Baba Mandir, etc. Not to mention, the drive back also has access to The Moriyan Top (Tingling Point) in the Tehri Garhwal district in Uttarakhand. From there, you'll be able to capture splendid views of Bandarpoonch Massif (6316 m) and the Great Indian Himalayan Ranges.

Trekking is not only about enjoying the change of scenery but also about being responsible. Our (Trekking Compass) responsibility is to provide you with an opportunity for a safe trek. But, how do we do that? We do that when you fulfill your end of the responsibility and are honest with us. To keep you safe we need to be sure there isn’t any inherent threat to your being.
Treks are at higher altitudes and it becomes difficult, almost impossible to provide you with immediate medical assistance. Therefore, we cannot help you if you don’t help us. Trekking is only one of the things you can do, but there are plenty of other things to do too. Don’t risk your life for the thrill.
To approach a trek with utmost safety, we want you to submit the following documents:
Personal Confirmation Statement (Compulsory for anyone over 18 years)
You are participating in a trek at high altitudes and it comes with its own sets of risks. This Personal Confirmation Statement will make sure that you understand all the risks you're buying into. Trekking Compass wants you to confirm your complete understanding of these risks so that you come prepared for any mental or physical challenges ahead.
This statement is also a declaration from you that, "All the information I have provided, including medical conditions, is true. If found false under any circumstances, I will be held accountable and it has nothing to do with Trekking Compass."
We have the utmost empathy for you and will do our best to help wherever possible, but only after assessing your readiness and safety for the trek. This is how our team will adequately prepare for whatever risks we might face during the journey. Concerning individuals are requested to thoroughly cross-check the requirements and only then sign the document.
Parent/Guardian Approval Statement (Compulsory for anyone below 18 years)
For participants under 18 years of age, the Parent/Guardian Approval Statement is essential to confirm that a legal guardian understands and consents to the participation in the trek. Once we have this document, we are affirmed that the parent or guardian is fully aware of the risks involved in trekking at high altitudes and is consenting to their child's participation.
No underage (below 18+) children are welcome on the trek without their parent's consent. Submission of this document reassures us that parents are approving that their child meets the health and fitness requirements for the trek, after a thorough examination.
This legal confirmation holds the parent liable for any discrepancies, freeing Trekking Compass from any liabilities for the same. Parents are requested to thoroughly cross-check the requirements and only then sign the document.
Medical Liability Waiver
The Medical Liability Waiver makes sure participants acknowledge the health risks associated with trekking at high altitudes. Common ailments during treks include altitude sickness, dehydration, muscle cramps, hypothermia, and fatigue, all of which can significantly affect your trekking experience. Additionally, weather changes and the physical demands of the terrain may exacerbate pre-existing conditions.
If you have pre-existing medical conditions such as asthma, diabetes, or heart issues, it’s vital to inform us and carry your necessary medications. Trekking Compass cannot provide immediate medical assistance in remote areas, so having the essential medications, such as inhalers, insulin, or any other prescriptions, is crucial for your safety during the trek.
By signing this waiver, you confirm that you are in good health and have taken the necessary precautions. You acknowledge these risks and agree not to hold Trekking Compass liable for any medical issues or accidents that may arise during the trek.
